Metal Molds

Aluminum angle bars are offered in 12 basic sizes: .5", 1:, 2" or 3.5" high BY 3.25", 6.25", or 12.25" in length.  They are listed as 3, 6, and 12 inches because that is the maximum size of the casting in each of the 12 units.  Each set consists of four bars of the same height and length. The .5" and 1" bars have a wall thickness of ¹/₁₆" while the 2" and 3.5" units are ¹/₈" thick.  All aluminum molds are a permanent investment that can be reused over and over again.  We've used the same sets in our workshop for over 30 years.  Easily cleaned and stored, no shrinkage, no warping - a really great idea.  They are indispensable for casting square and rectangle forms and can be adjusted to many sizes.  Mold Release W is used for easy separation of castings from metal bars.

Extruded Lead Came

Extruded Lead Came is ³/₁₆" wide and gives a true artisan look to all Stained Glass work.  This pliable material is easily shaped and reshaped to follow any original design or pattern.

Mold Releases

Mold Releases, or Parting Agents, prevent Castolite casting from adhering to the mold.  With few exceptions, all molding and casting projects require on or more mold releases of one type or another.  They are available in liquids and waxes and may be applied by brush, cloth, or sprayed on.  Some molds are self releasing; Castolite SR and Polyethylene molds have their own built-in lubricating agents; but even these will benefit from the application of special mold releases to promote a better finish, easier release, or longer life.  Molding and reproduction presents many variables and no single parting agent will solve all conditions.

Mold Release W is a white paste wax.  It is an excellent release agent by itself or in combination with Mold Release F.  Apply it with a soft brush, cloth, or fingertips; always follow the directions on the label.

Mold Release F is a liquid film-forming poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) parting agent.  MR-F may be applied with with a soft brush, cloth, or sprayer.  It forms a glossy barrier film upon drying.  When releasing the casting from the mold, parts of the film usually adhere to the surface of the mold and casting; this is easily removed with hot water.
